In partnership with the Automotive Research Center of the Automobile Club of Southern California, AAA conducted primary research to assess the performance of 2024 and 2025 model year vehicles equipped with pedestrian detection systems. This testing took place in a controlled, closed-course environment, utilizing an industry-standard adult pedestrian target that crossed the path of the vehicles at a right angle. Each system was evaluated at a speed of 25 mph under both daytime and nighttime conditions. The pedestrian target wore standard non-reflective clothing as well as an ANSI Class 3 high-visibility clothing ensemble.
